Some electronic cigarette companies have made their products availalbe in, not only nicotine, but flavours that may attract children to the device.
Ice-cream flavours such as cookies-and-cream, banana and strawberry have all been used to persuade a wider range of possible customers to use the products. So, their customer base is not only tobacco smokers who want to stop smoking, but also the vunerable who think smoking is glamorous and want to be seen with a cigarette-like device in their hands.
Some see this as an encouragement to underage customers who then may move on to smoking tobacco.
So, in response to a lot of concern about these flavourings, one e-cig company in America has reached a settlement with a state attorney general’s office to stop selling fruit flavoured products, which were actually seen to target minors.
Some kiosk retailers had already decided not to sell these fruit flavoured e-cigs, seeing them as a possible danger to children.
If the electronic cigarette industry wants to be taken seriously by producing products that help people to quit smoking, then it is imperative that they stop targeting children.
