How Does it Work?

An Electronic Cigarette contains a battery, an atomiser (or heater) and a cartridge (or mouthpiece) that contains the nicotine and some liquid ( propylene glycol- or glycerin-based solution). You can see the make up of the Electronic Cigarette below:

When you take a drag on the electronic cigarette you get a small hit of nicotine by inhaling the vapour that is produced by the atomizer. When you draw in, a small switch is activated, which turns on the heating device in the atomiser. The vapour is what contains the nicotine, and drawing it in will provide you with a feeling that will satiate your craving.  The ‘smoke’ that is produced is a highly realistic vapour which emits a pleasant smell and evaporates into the air in just a matter of seconds.

The battery component is rechargeable, and lasts anywhere from 2 to 3 days depending on how often you use your e-cigarette. Most starter packs come with a charger, so you can recharge your battery at home. Many users also purchase an additional spare battery.

The cartridges can emit varying levels of nicotine: zero, medium or high. The high level cartridges contain the same level of nicotine that you would find in regular cigarettes. The medium level offers about half of that. Because the cartridges do not contain tobacco, manufacturers state that users should be able to smoke e-cigarettes indoors.

When compared to smoking actual cigarettes, the cost of e-smokes present a 50% percent savings. Although a starter kit costs about $90, users save money over time because cartridges last 20-times longer than normal cigarettes. When it comes to the actual feeling of smoking, many users have stated that it is very similar to smoking a tobacco cigarette.
