News has been circulating for some time now about the possibility that electronic cigarettes may be used to administer illegal drugs such as marijuana.

There are suggestions that this version of the e-cigarette could be used in public places without being detected.

Publicity such as this obviously detracts from what most people believe to be the primary use of the e-cig, which is that it delivers safe doses of nicotine to those people who wish to give up smoking.

Some e-cigarettes are actually being marketed as being filled with marijuana, and it may also be possible for individuals to fill the cartridges with illegal substances themselves.

The US Air Force is aware of the potential dangers of using the e-cig in this way, and has warned its personnel against their use, banning them from being used in any situation where there is a ban on smoking tobacco.

Generally, however, e-cig news is good.  With sales increasing and a growing number of people using them successfully to quit smoking.

At least one major retailer in the UK has realized how popular the electronic cigarette is becoming, and in a bid to be ahead of the game, is launching a marketing compaign later this month.

E-cigs, as they are sometimes known, have been around for several years now, and are mainly available to purchase through the internet. However, their growing popularity is beginning to attract the attention of special interest groups, as they notice that sales in e-cigs are creating a dent in the sales of both tobacco and other smoking cessation products.

So, we are likely to continue to see many of these groups trying to discredit the e-cigarette industry.  Why? Because they are starting to be afraid of the competition.  It seems they are likely to be fighting a losing battle.

More and more testimonials as to the popularity of the e-cig are appearing on the internet. Many, inevitably, are sponsored by e-cig companies, but there are many others that appear to be unbiased and enthusiastic.

Even if someone has managed to give up smoking with the help of th e-cig and is subsequently sponsored by an e-cig company, it shouldn't detract from the fact that the product has been successful for them.

The e-cig is sometimes referred to as the "Super Cigarette".  It looks and feels like the real thing, produces no smoke and is tobacco free.  What more do you need?

The nicotine solution, which is part of an electronic cigarette, usually comes separately in a refillable cartridge (although some brands do vary in how they do  this).

This liquid nicotine is sometimes known as e-liquid or e-juice.  The 'juice' comes in any different flavours and concentations.

The e-liquid consists of nicotine, which is disolved in propylene glycol and sometimes vegetable glycol.  Both of these scary sounding ingredients are commonly found in food, as additives, and are present in very tiny amounts in any case!

The e-cig user can decide on the amount of nicotine they want.  The concentrations vary from nothing at all, through low and medium to extra high doses.

The concentrations are usually printed on the e-liquid bottle or cartridge.

Some of the flavours mimic a traditional cigarette, for example tobacco or menthol.  Others simply provide flavours one wouldn't normally associate with cigarettes, such as fruit flavours, sweet flavours and even tastes such as coffee.

Many people gradually reduce the amount of nicotine they inhale from the e-cig, as they become less dependent.

Trying a variety of flavours can prove to be fun, all adding to the experience of changing a lifetime dependency on tobacco, to a healthier and more sociable alternative.

An electronic cigarette or e-cig is a cigarette shaped device.  Its purpose is to give the user inhaled doses of nicotine.

The e-cig usually comes in 3 parts, the cartridge which is the mouthpiece, the heating element which is the atomizer and finally the battery and electronics.

The cartridge contains the liquid nicotine.  This can either be refilled with nicotine after use, or in some models replaced.

The heating element vaporizes the liquid nicotine from the cartridge.  This part lasts around a month, although brands vary.  Some e-cigs have a combined atomizer and pre-filled disposable part called a cartomizer.

The final part of the electronic cigarette is the battery and electronics.  Most batteries will be rechargable and will have a sensor that automatically starts the heating element.  The electronics include a saftely device that prevents overheating.  This part also provides a authentic looking glowing tip.

The e-cig gives the user doses of nicotine, but without the smoke and dangerous chemicals. When inhalation takes place a water vapour is produced, so that the vapour and the glowing tip make it look and feel like the real thing.
