Early research may show nicotine actually helps some medical conditons

Posted on Sunday May 30 12:49:00 BST 2010
There has been some interesting research into the affects of nicotine which, although in its very early stages, may show that it has a very positive affect on some illnesses such as depression, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and even obesity.

Nicotine actually occurs naturally in nature and can be found in small quantities in some vegetables and even some teas, and of course, the tobacco leaf.

What is not widely understood is that nicotine is not in itself a dangersous substance if it is not burning.  Many people associate it with the dangers of smoking tobacco, when it is the many other chemicals present in a cigarette which are dangerous to health.

So, if this ongoing research proves to be correct in its early predictions on nicotine, and its affects on some medical conditions, it will mean that the electronic cigarette, which delivers nicotine in a safe way, will become even more popular than it is at the moment.

Currently the e-cigarette is generally used as an aid to help people quit smoking, by delivering the nicotine fix, without all the dangerous chemicals present in a lit cigarette.  In this capacity it is proving to be a very successful product.

It is exciting to contemplate that in the future it may be used to help people with some very serious medical conditions.
